About

Ivy Vélez is a distinguished advocate within the grassroots Latina Deaf Community. As the eldest daughter of Deaf parents hailing from Puerto Rico, Ivy's roots run deep within her heritage. She currently serves as the Statewide Coordinator for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Supports at the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), a role that involves her dedication to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Ivy's educational background is marked by a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services and a Master of Science in Organizational Management and Leadership. With over 35 years of experience in the field of human services, Ivy has honed her expertise in various domains. She has crafted specialized consultations, conducted staff training, and orchestrated program/process evaluations. These endeavors have revolved around the crucial theme of intercultural competences, emphasizing the value of diversity in culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse school settings, workplaces, and organizations. Her impact extends not only locally but also statewide and nationwide.

Within her portfolio of accomplishments, Ivy has taken on the role of conducting and chairing effective cultural sensitivity workshops. She has delivered numerous presentations, seminars, and panels, all of which have tackled issues affecting Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.

Residing in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Ivy shares her life with her partner of 25 years, and together, they have lovingly raised five cherished cats. Beyond her professional endeavors, Ivy remains deeply committed to the Deaf community. She has contributed as a board member of several organizations and continues to be an active participant in community activities. In her personal time, Ivy passionately engages in "The Velez Deaf Sisters Show," participates in Deaf community theaters, and attends a wide array of enriching deaf events.
