Research is foundational to the History major. Whether you’re starting with “Research Methods in History,” or have made your way to the advanced level “Independent Study” course, there is no shortage of research to be done by Gallaudet’s future historians. Drs. John S. & Betty J. Schuchman Deaf Documentary Center
A part of the National Deaf Life Museum, the Schuchman Center gives students the opportunity for an education in and through the art of the documentary. The center’s focus is to educate the public on deaf culture and to enhance humanities scholarship through the medium of documentaries.
Established in 1991, Deaf History International (DHI) holds a conference every three years and is an excellent resource for Deaf History. Keep up with them on Instagram and Facebook for quick lessons in Deaf history or to stay updated through in-person and live-streamed events.
History students have the opportunity to gain knowledge from the many resources D.C. has to offer. Sites like Ford’s Theater, the Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian Museum of American History offer students a chance to step into history while gaining professional experience.
