Congratulations, welcome to the Bison Community!
The Student Orientation (SO) program at Gallaudet is designed to provide incoming first-year and transfer students with the information, resources, and support they need to make a smooth transition into university life. This helps them prepare for the start of their academic careers here at Gallaudet University. During the SO, you will have time to meet your academic and career team, familiarize with the resources offered on campus, and get to know your classmates. There is no other place like this globally; your experience here will be unique and memorable.
The orientation program takes place a few days before the start of the fall semester and is mandatory for all new students. View the FALL 2026 Orientation schedule here.
The program is three days long and includes a variety of activities, including:
- Information Sessions: There are several information sessions held during orientation, including sessions on academic requirements, student life, financial aid, and campus resources.
- Workshops: Workshops are offered on a variety of topics, such as time management, study skills, and communication strategies.
- Social Activities: There are also several social activities planned during orientation, such as a welcome reception and a dance, which allow students to get to know one another and make new friends.
- Advising and Registration: Students meet with their academic advisors during orientation to discuss their course schedules and plan their academic program for the semester.
Overall, the new student orientation at Gallaudet is designed to help new students feel comfortable and confident as they begin their college journey. The program provides students with the necessary information and resources to succeed academically, socially, and personally at Gallaudet University.

I got in! Now what?
Yes, we strongly encourage you to take the placement tests online before arriving at Undergraduate Student Orientation(NSO).
You will receive an email at your Gallaudet email address with more information on how to take your placement test online. If you are unable to take the test online, you can take the placement test on campus. The placement test rooms are located in the King Jordan Student Academic Centre (JSAC) classrooms. You will be given a room number during NSO Business Registration Day at the Academic Advising Booth. You can contact your advisor to confirm if you have completed all your placement testing requirements.
