Internships

Students are required to complete at least one internship in the BSPH Program. Internships are an opportunity for students to put skills and concepts from the classroom to work through real-world applications. Potential internship sites include government agencies such as the National Health Institute, Centers for Disease Control, state departments, local health departments, or local hospitals and clinics. Other examples of internships that students have completed include all of the following.

Study of Access to Covid 19 Health Services for Deaf and Hearing Communities in the Caribbean.

Development of Education Videos in ASL

Whitman Walker Health Clinic

Assistance with health-related activities and health education

Shield T3 Covid Testing

Work with the T3 Testing site and lab-based at Gallaudet University. Assisting with Covid 19 vaccine days and with FEMA vaccine site in Greenbelt.

Family Tree Clinic

Providing sexual and reproductive health education to deaf and hard of hearing students in local schools.

Credentials and Certification

Graduates of the BSPH program are equipped to take nationally accredited certification tests such as the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (CHES) exam and the Certification in Public Health (CPH) exam. Passing these exams sets students on the track for success in their professional public health life.

The APHA gives students and graduates alike the chance to learn in-person or online the latest in public health research. From discussing best practices to influence federal policy, the APHA surrounds members with the top public health influencers and information.
