March ‘Roving Reporter’: Running, biking, and triathlon season
This month, “Roving Reporter” asked campus athletes: With the running, biking, and triathlon season upon us, which races or rides are you most looking forward to?
The Cherry Blossom Ten Miler in April! I’m very excited about this race because thousands of people have entered the lottery to get into this popular race. I waited for four years to be part of it. I will also participate in Bike New York, coming up in May. Erin Fisher, career consultant, Career Center My deaf cycling group, dVELO, is partnering with the Laurent Clerc Cultural Fund to organize a bike ride with President Hurwitz. I am acting as a route guide and working on bike shop support for the 20-mile ride. I look forward to more deaf participation in bike riding grow from this event.
I’m looking forward to the Warrior Dash extreme run in Mechanicsville, Md., on May 22. Brave “warriors” Amanda Mueller and Erica Alley from GIS will also be participating! My next event will be the D.C. Triathlon on June 19. Yoshiko Chino, director, Gallaudet Interpreting Service. My big goal for this year is to participate in the Nation’s Triathlon (swimming, biking, and running) on September 11. I will also run in the Sun Trust National Half Marathon on March 26 in D.C. I miss out on fun weekend events because of training, but there’s great satisfaction in setting new personal records.
