Overview
Gallaudet University’s faculty produces world-class STEM graduates. In recognition of their quality and the need to expand opportunities and access to low-income deaf and hard of hearing students, the National Science Foundation has issued a grant to fund scholarships for students pursuing a variety of majors.
Students who can demonstrate financial need and wish to pursue bachelor’s degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Information Technology are encouraged to apply for this award. First-year students will receive up to four years of scholarship support and transfer students will receive up to two-year scholarships.
In addition to the financial component, these awardees will benefit from access to the following to support their matriculation and retention supports:
- Tutoring support through the School of Science, Technology, Accessibility, Mathematics, and Public Health (STAMP) tutoring center
- Provide general wellness and mental health support by partnering with Gallaudet’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPs) and Student Success’ student coaches
- Removing Linguistic Barriers at remote internship sites by providing technology developed by STAMP’s Accessibility program
- Preparing students for a career in STEM by partnering with Gallaudet University’s Career Center to organize a STAMP Day for potential employers and graduate schools
- Networking opportunities for STAMP majors by funding their membership fees for professional STEM organizations
