Our second major research interest is to understand the developmental trajectory for acquiring early and foundational number concepts in children who are exposed to sign language before entering formal school. Better understanding how sign language supports the cognitive milestones necessary for proficient numerical reasoning will allow better teaching support and provide appropriate educational guidelines for policy change.
The lab’s NSF-funded research is currently suspended due to COVID-19 risks but we do have an online study for children 3 to 5 years old. Sign up!
