Student Health Insurance: Charges, Waivers, and Enrollment Information

Student Health Insurance

Gallaudet University requires all full-time students (living on or off campus) and part-time students living on campus to maintain health insurance. Students must either enroll in the Gallaudet Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or submit a waiver if they have comparable health insurance coverage.

Student Health Insurance Charge

A Student Health Insurance charge is automatically added to eligible students’ accounts each academic term. If you have comparable health insurance coverage and submit an approved waiver by the published deadline, the charge will be removed from your student account. If a waiver is not submitted by the deadline, you will remain enrolled in the university’s Student Health Insurance Plan and will be responsible for the insurance premium.

How to Enroll or Waive

Students must complete their health insurance decision online each applicable term by either:

• Enrolling in the Gallaudet Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), or

• Submitting a waiver with proof of comparable health insurance coverage.

Even if you received a waiver in a previous term, a new waiver may be required for future enrollment periods based on the university’s health insurance process. Please review the current requirements and deadlines.
