GUAA & Laurent Clerc Cultural Fund...
These awards are presented during Charter Day which celebrates the signing of Gallaudet’s charter by President Abraham Lincoln on April 8, 1864.
The GUAA presents three annual awards:Gertrude Scott Galloway, ’51, PhD ’93 & H-’02, Advocacy and Social Justice Award
To an individual who has been a strong advocate for social justice for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.Outstanding Young Alumnus AwardTo a young Gallaudet alumnus or alumna who has graduated or left the University within the past 15 years and has accomplished some notable achievement in his or her personal or professional life that brought favorable recognition to the University.Pauline ‘Polly’ Peikoff, E-’36, ‘Service to Others’ AwardTo individuals within the deaf community who have contributed significantly to the community, especially as volunteers.
There are four annual LCCF awards:Laurent Clerc AwardFor outstanding social contributions by a deaf person.Alice Cogswell AwardTo a person for valuable service on behalf of deaf citizens.Edward Miner Gallaudet AwardTo an international or national deaf or hearing leader working to promote the well-being of deaf people worldwide.Amos Kendall AwardTo a deaf person for notable excellence in a professional field not related to deafness.
We are seeking deserving individuals for the GUAA and LCCF awards. If you know of an individual or individuals from your local deaf community or elsewhere that you feel should be recognized for his or her service or accomplishments, please submit a nomination. Nominations for LCCF and GUAA awards may be made by individuals, GUAA chapters, and other organizations.
Be sure to include:the nominee’s name; position and title where they work (if applicable); which award you are nominating them for; his or her contact information including address, e-mail, and TTY/VP/voice numbers; why you feel this person is deserving of the particular award. It is strongly recommended that you submit two (2) or more letters of support. In the case of nominees from outside the United States, at least one (1) letter of support should be from an organization in the nominee’s country.

All nominating materials become the property of the Gallaudet University Alumni Association (GUAA). The GUAA Board of Directors and the Laurent Clerc Cultural Fund Committee reserve the right to verify information provided, and to request additional documentation.
