Roving Reporter: Winter reading
If you love to get lost in a book try the Swedish author Steig Larsson’s detective trilogy-The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. Make sure to clear your calendar before starting because you won’t be able to stop-and you won’t want any interruptions! It’s also cool that all three books have been made into movies.
Elizabeth Meynardie, manager of Training and Technical Assistance, Clerc Center
I read Gandhi’s An Autobiography: The Story of my Experiments with Truth, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys philosophy or spirituality. When you read it, you may not agree with Ghandi, but you can’t help but respect him.
Mohammad Obiedat, professor, Math Department
I recommend books by the fiction writer David Morrell [author of First Blood]. I can really get into his writing and that world of fantasy.
Nebiyu Nega, carpenter, Maintenance Services
I recommend The Forever War, by Joe Haldema because the story takes place on several planets light-years away from Earth. Throw in a bit of serious time dilation (imagine roughly 50 to 100 years passing each time the main character returns to base after fighting on a different planet), and a very, very vague understanding of why Earth insists on battling a specific alien species, and you have an engrossing story with an unexpected ending. The book’s a great escape from winter, or, rather, from planet Earth.
