Gallaudet University Provost Khadijat K. Rashid, ’90, has been selected by Profiles in Diversity Journal as one of 70 honorees in their 23rd annual class of Women Worth Watching in Leadership. These women, from all over the country and from many employment sectors, are “living their vision, blazing new trails, achieving lofty goals, and lifting others as they climb.”

Provost Rashid, standing in front of a whiteboard, is smiling and pointing to something off-camera. She is bespectacled and wearing a blue Gallaudet University polo short sleeved shirt.

The publication devotes one full page to each honoree, with a photograph, a capsule biography, and an essay submitted by the honorees themselves. Dr. Rashid’s essay is titled “Everyone Needs Higher Education, Including the Deaf.” She chronicles her own journey from Nigeria to the United States, and says that “It is my life goal to make a difference in deaf education, to ensure that as many deaf people as possible are provided access to a liberal education from kindergarten through college, and ultimately, to ensure that future generations of deaf individuals have access to all life opportunities as active and engaged citizens of the world.”

Profiles in Diversity Journal maintains several other annual listings, and tracks the progress of its awardees through their careers. In particular, a large number of its honorees in the Women Worth Watching category have become chief executive officers.

Congratulations, Provost Rashid!
