Gallaudet is rumbling, but it’s not an earthquake. Herds of bison students and faculty have stormed back to campus for the 2026-27 academic year. In early August, we welcomed the first group of new students to JumpStart, a program for new and emerging signers. Later in the month, the remaining new students arrived for Orientation, while returning students and faculty began to make their way back.
Classes have now officially started and the year is underway! Keep scrolling to see photos from Move-In Day to Convocation.
Move-In Day

On Move-In Day, new students and their families arrived at Gallaudet to get settled in the dorms and explore the campus. They were helped by a herd of Bison staff, student workers, and volunteers!
Bison Walk

The Gallaudet community gave new students a raucous welcome during the annual Bison Walk! The students walked from the campus entrance to Hanson Plaza, where they enjoyed a barbecue and ice cream with faculty, staff, and their fellow students.
International Student Orientation

New international students were officially welcomed by International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). They were joined by Gallaudet President Roberta Cordano and Provost Khadijat Rashid.
Convocation

Gallaudet University hosted a Convocation event to kick off the academic year for students, faculty, and staff. The audience was treated to inspiring comments by Gallaudet Provost Khadijat Rashid, President Roberta Cordano, and professor Todd Bonheyo.
