MedStar Health, Gallaudet, Miss District of...
MedStar Health joined forces with Jude Maboné, Miss District of Columbia, and the Gallaudet University Athletics training staff to create a video about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillator (AED) devices to save lives. The filming took place on Hotchkiss Field on August 14, and the video was released on September 5.
MedStar Health is a nonprofit healthcare organization that operates ten local hospitals, including MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Its medical staff also works closely with several college and university athletic departments, including Gallaudet’s, and with professional sports teams, including the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, Washington Capitals, and more. MedStar Health previously produced CPR/AED videos with the Wizards, Mystics, and Capitals, and Georgetown University Women’s Soccer. The new video will be the fifth in this series, and the only one in ASL.
Dr. Korin Hudson, an emergency medicine physician with MedStar Health, partnered with Jude Maboné, Miss District of Columbia; Tom McKnight, ’10, one of our athletic trainers; and Tra’Shauna Tate, a senior physical education major, in making the video. Freelance interpreter Jerrin George also appears in the video. Silver Ridge Productions, a Chantilly, Virginia-based video production company, did the filming with support from Robert Weinstock, ’76 & G-’83, and Shara Winesburg, E-’11, from Gallaudet’s Office of University Communications.
Maboné is conversant in ASL because she grew up with a deaf friend. She had the first of six heart attacks at age 16. Her platform in the Miss District of Columbia pageant and in the Miss America pageant in December is “Check Your Heart.” She is a graduate of American University, where she majored in international studies and ran in long-distance track events.
All five MedStar Health CPR/AED videos are on the MedStar website.
