Basic needs insecurity is a nationwide issue that affects college students, as reported by The Hope Center
Three in five students experience insecurity related to basic needs, such as food and/or housing (The Hope Center, 2025)

Located at Ely 122, this new and improved Campus Pantry aims to address this concern and is part of a growing national movement to combat hunger among college students. We, here at the Health and Wellness Programs want to support our student body, but ensuring students can focus on their academics while taking care of their basic needs. With the availability of the Campus Pantry, please stop by the HWP office, located at ELY 103, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Someone will provide access to the pantry.

The Campus Pantry is available only for the Gallaudet University Students and their families.

What can you find at the Campus Pantry? Well, it’s not just about food; we’ve got you covered with a limited number of other essentials, including:

  •  🧼 Toiletries,
  • 👖 Clothing,
  • ❄️ Coats,
  • and more!

We rely on donations to make this possible. To donate- bring items including but not limited to clothing, crackers, soups, microwaveable meals, canned meats, snacks (e.g., granola bars, applesauce), full-size toiletries (e.g., deodorant, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste), and laundry detergent. The pantry is intended as a supplemental source of food, not a primary source of food. The food on site is primarily non-perishable, and the pantry is stocked with fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and non-dairy options. We are grateful that the Campus Pantry is made possible through our partnerships with the Capital Area Food Bank, the Free State Chapter (MD) of the Gallaudet University Alumni Association, several Gallaudet departments, and other resources.

Together, we can make a positive impact on addressing basic needs insecurity among our GU community.
