Dr. Patrick Boudreault wins award for steering Deaf Studies Digital Journal
Deaf Studies Digital Journal (DSDJ) Executive Editor Dr. Patrick Boudreault has just received the Edward Allen Fay Award from the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf. The award, which recognizes publications that contribute to the field of deaf education, emphasizes how vital it is for Deaf researchers to be able to communicate their scholarly work.
Education professor researched bilingual teaching strategies in Mexico as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar
Dr. Maribel Gárate-Estes, a professor of Education at Gallaudet University, spent the fall 2023 semester in Mexico researching bilingual teaching strategies to allocate a signed and a written/spoken language with deaf students. She also collaborated with the Department of Education (Secretaría de Educación Pública) and the Instituto Pedagógico para Problemas del Lenguaje (I.A.P.) on curriculum and program development to benefit current and future teachers of deaf-signing students.

“As I see a lot of deaf children isolated and alone, I can’t help but think of my experience,” Dr. Amy June Rowley, '97, said last week during a presentation she gave as part of the 9th Education and Advocacy Summit, hosted by the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD), National Association of the Deaf, and Gallaudet University. The event, held in the Hall Memorial Building, focused on the legal and policy challenges regarding the educational placement of deaf and hard of hearing students.
