Overview
The Gallaudet University’s Debate Team is a group of highly skilled and motivated students who are dedicated to fostering disagreement, debate, and civic engagement in ASL and English.
The team is coached and mentored by deaf and hearing faculty, staff, and alumni affiliated with Gallaudet University who share a commitment to constructive disagreement, debate, and civic engagement.
The Debate Team has a strong track record of success, winning numerous competitions and accolades. Members of the team have gained recognition for their critical thinking, public speaking, and analytical skills, all of which are essential for active participation in a democratic society.
As a member of the Debate Team, students will have the opportunity to participate in debates and other civic engagement activities, as well as receive training and support from experienced coaches and mentors. The team also provides opportunities for travel and competition, giving students the chance to showcase their skills and engage with other individuals and organizations committed to promoting democracy and civic engagement.
Joining the Debate Team is open to all students at Gallaudet University who are interested in developing their democratic skills and making a positive impact in their communities and the country. The team typically holds tryouts at the beginning of each semester, and interested students can sign up to participate by contacting us for more information.
