Bison Kickstarts the New Season with a Solid Win

It was a triumphant home opener for the Gallaudet University men’s basketball team on Tuesday night, November 15, before a crowd of 300 at the Field House as the Bison defeated Maryland Bible College, 80-69. The game also featured a career highlight for senior guard Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.), who entered the game needing 12 points to reach 1,000 career points.

Tatum reached the plateau mark at the 5:51 mark in the second half when he made a jump shot. The game was briefly stopped to recognize Tatum for his accomplishment. He finished the game with 15 points and a team-high three steals.

“Tony is my first recruit from my first recruiting class here at Gallaudet. So this is extra special for me to see him reach this milestone,” said Gallaudet coach Jeb Barber, who began his fifth year with the Bison. “I am so proud of his hard work, his personal growth and maturity and his ability to be a leader. This senior class has really molded well and become great teachers and leaders for this team. They are setting the example for future classes to follow.”

“It felt great to experience this accomplishment of reaching 1,000 career points with my teammates. More importantly, I am glad we got our first win of the season,” said Tatum.
