Theater Alliance’s World Becomes Flesh by Marc Bamuthi Joseph

Theater Alliance’s World Becomes Flesh by Marc Bamuthi Joseph won five awards out of 10 nominations during the 33rd annual Helen Hayes Awards held on May 15, 2017, held at the Lincoln Theatre and the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. The play’s set was designed by Gallaudet University’s Ethan Sinnott, an associate professor in the Department of Art, Communication and Theater.

Among the awards Flesh won was the Outstanding Production of a Play, awarded to a winner from a smaller non-equity theatre company in the D.C. area. Flesh also won the awards for Outstanding Director, Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Lighting Design, and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Play.

Earlier this year, Sinnott designed the set for Mosaic Theatre Company’s critically acclaimed production of Hooded, Or Being Black for Dummies, which will return for a special encore remount in the summer of 2018. Mosaic Theatre Company won the John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company.
