The Gallaudet University Board of Trustees is deeply saddened and outraged by the killing of George Floyd and countless other Black persons who experience violence and discrimination as a result of systemic racism

We stand in solidarity with our Gallaudet community in supporting the message of Dr. Ndura, our Vice President for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

As each of us reflects on the lives lost, we must not turn away but acknowledge that we must put an end to racism that puts Black lives at risk.

As President Cordano stated, we must work together on this fight for social justice and find solutions that will provide both a platform for civil discourse and a safe haven that leads to well-being for all members of our community.

We want the Gallaudet community to know that we, the Board, are with you and share your sense of urgency and unwavering commitment to bring an end to this violence against the Black community in America.

We intend to address this in our own work as a Board, and we will continue to support you as we all work to combat racism and injustice. We are committed to helping to build and foster a community that is truly safe, supportive, inclusive, and equitable.

Change starts with each of us, and we must hold each other accountable.

Sincerely,

The Board of Trustees
