Dr. Teresa Blankmeyer Burke has devoted her entire career to teaching and research in bioethics. Blankmeyer Burke, a professor of philosophy and director of the School of Arts and Humanities, is currently in high demand for her views about two gene therapy trials, one in Shanghai, China, and one in Philadelphia, that have restored partial hearing to a total of seven children.

As with any gene therapy study, there are both medical and ethical issues. Blankmeyer Burke was quoted extensively in an Associated Press article by medical writer Laura Ungar in late January, and was one of two guests on the Vox Media Today, Explained podcast hosted by Sean Rameswaram on February 2. She expects that she will be sought out by other media outlets. At the same time, she is conducting research and writing on this very topic.
