Name: Jessica Nortey
Country: Ghana
Field of Study: Accounting

My name is Jessica Nortey, and I come from Accra, Ghana, in West Africa. I was born deaf. Attending Gallaudet University has been my big dream since I was in high school.

I first enrolled at Gallaudet as an international undergraduate student in the fall of 2012 and I am expecting to graduate in May 2016. Currently, I am a junior majoring in accounting. I have also been active in the Gallaudet Dance Company.

My immediate goals are to get an accounting internship and earn my degree. After graduation, I would like to provide help and support for the deaf Ghanaian community to show the public that deaf people can do anything successfully.

My Sasakawa International Scholarship through the Nippon Foundation has provided me with the opportunity to pay for my education at Gallaudet. Without it, this would not have been possible. My heart is truly full of gratitude for what the Sasakawa International Scholarship has given me. I am thankful for their
thoughtfulness and consideration.
