Overview
Particular programs offered by Gallaudet have met the standards and requirements of programmatic accrediting organizations.
The University’s teacher preparation programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). CAEP reviews the educator preparation programs as a unit; this includes the Department of Education Teacher Preparation programs, as well as School Psychology, School Social Work and School Counseling programs, which also prepare educators and/or school personnel. The University refers to these entities collectively as the Professional Education Programs.
Specialized program associations (SPAs) also review programs against their established programmatic standards and provide National Recognition when merited. SPA reviews are included in the CAEP review process.
Programs are also approved by the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) to provide licensure recommendations in specific programs/licensure areas.
Program accreditation, approval, and recognition are high-profile issues these days, but the different categories can often be confusing. On this page, you’ll find two separate charts to differentiate between the types of review: accreditation, licensing, and national recognition/approval.
