Overview
Research has shown that over the past decade, more Deaf people are completing college degrees and getting jobs, but not at the same rate as hearing people. There is still a high demand for jobs in the RMI sector and a growing focus on analytics and data mining. It is Gallaudet and the Maguire Foundation’s vision to ensure young Deaf and hard of hearing students are exposed first-hand to the insurance business and become poised to be the best candidates to seize those new job opportunities.
The cost of attending college continues to rise, making it difficult for many students to afford a degree. This is especially true for Deaf and hard of hearing students interested in pursuing a career in risk management and insurance. Currently, 90% of our undergraduate students receive some type of financial aid, and about 70% of our students come from families with incomes of less than $50,000 a year.
The Maguire Scholars Fund will provide financial assistance to juniors and senior students pursuing a risk management and insurance degree. Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, and a commitment to a risk management and insurance career. Benefits include:
- Financial assistance to help cover the cost of tuition, fees, and other expenses
- Recognition for academic excellence and a commitment to a career in risk management and insurance
- Networking opportunities with alumni and other professionals in the field
- A competitive edge in the job market
