About

Elise Nye is the Director of University Communications, where she oversees a multi-functional team responsible for advancing the university's strategic communications, brand, and storytelling. University Communications brings together three key areas – Communications, Creative, and Operations – to deliver integrated, bilingual content across all platforms.

University Communications includes public and media relations, social media, executive and internal communications, brand and visual identity, multimedia production, web and digital strategy, publications such as Gallaudet Today magazine, the Hi5 e-newsletter, and the MyGU Digest.

Elise works closely with university leadership to shape and share the Gallaudet story with audiences on campus and around the world.

Before returning to her alma mater, Elise spent more than 20 years in healthcare administration in roles ranging from data analyst to project manager to compliance director.

Elise is usually found volunteering for deaf non-profit organizations. Recently, Elise supported the development of the first apartment designed for Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing residents in New Mexico. She was the chair of the Abused Deaf Women’s Advocacy Services board in Seattle, WA, and is currently on the Communication Service for the Deaf board.

In her personal life, Elise is usually found hiking, road-tripping to obscure corners of her home state, reading, and antiquing.

Elise is a proud alum of Gallaudet University with a BA in Sociology. She received her MA in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University.
