About

Sweet brings higher education advancement expertise as well as deep, firsthand knowledge of Gallaudet's mission and community. In her current role at UMGC, which she has held since 2008, she leads Development, Alumni Relations and Enrollment, IA Communications, Sponsored Programs, and Career Services. With more than 30 years of management and fundraising experience, she has led the institution's first capital campaign and built an innovative Career Services model serving both students and alumni.

Before joining UMGC, Sweet spent 14 years at Gallaudet in various roles, including Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, where she led two capital campaigns that together raised more than $70 million for scholarships, program support, and the construction of two academic buildings. She also held the role of Special Assistant to the President, where she was liaison to the Board of Trustees and Board of Associates and led congressional relations activities.

Earlier in her career, Sweet worked for United Way, where she directed a community service center serving deaf and hard-of-hearing residents in Forsyth County, North Carolina. She also worked as Assistant Director of Emergency Services at Sign Language Associates (SLA). She has been a board member of Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland and Special Olympics Maryland and is a member of Leadership Maryland's Class of 2010.

Sweet earned a master's degree in counseling from Gallaudet University and a bachelor's degree in education from the University of North Carolina. She also received a certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University.
