Academics

Dear students:

As announced on November 6, Gallaudet University will continue with remote learning during Spring 2021. Pending approval from the District of Columbia, the university plans to increase the number of students on campus to 200 from the current 85, and possibly offer a few hybrid courses for students residing on campus.

Additionally, as announced on November 13, spring break has been rescheduled to April 5-9, 2021. If you will be traveling during spring break, you must check out of your residence hall room before you leave, and finish the semester remotely.

This message explains how we will assign on-campus housing for Spring 2021. To be considered, you must submit a COVID-19 housing application form. Be sure to log in to the application form using your Gallaudet email credentials. We recommend that you use the Google Chrome browser. The deadline to apply for on-campus housing is November 30, 2020.

The criteria are as follows:

  • Students requiring special accommodations (health/medical, approved by OSWD)
  • Students with in-person internships in the Washington metropolitan area
  • Other extenuating circumstances (hardship at home)

Your application will be reviewed by a committee following strict criteria. The decision will be communicated with you during the week of December 7-11, 2020. If your application is approved, you will be contacted by a Student Health Ambassador or Coordinator of Residence Education to schedule a one-on-one meeting to review the specific requirements and guidelines you must follow. These requirements and guidelines are set by the university and the Office of Residence Life and Housing.

Residence hall check-in will take place Wednesday, January 13 through Sunday, January 17, 2021, following a strict time schedule. Please do not make any travel plans until your check-in date is confirmed.

Prior to check-in, you will be expected to attend an online COVID-19 webinar. You also must submit the following documentation to Contact:

  • Health insurance information
  • Immunization record
  • Flu shot verification
  • Results of COVID-19 testing

Again, the deadline to apply for on-campus housing is November 30, 2020. If you have any questions or concerns, contact us at Contact.

We look forward to working with you should you decide to apply for on-campus housing. Be safe and healthy.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Susan Hanrahan
Director
Office of Residence Life and Housing
