PST-891 ST: Psychosocial Aspects of Disability

This course will examine the psychological, social, and cultural aspects of two forms of disability, inborn and acquired later in life. During the class, we will be analyzing issues related with the history of discrimination, prejudice, and the stigma directed towards individuals with disabilities. Students will learn about the adaptation to various types of disability and the impact that other factors such as race, gender, sexual orientation have on this adjustment. Students will also learn about the psychosocial aspects of specific disabilities and the challenges associated with working with individuals possessing limited English proficiency.
