PST-276 Advanced American Sign Language

Advanced study of American Sign Language (ASL) grammar through ASL narratives and literature is covered. Further development and refinement skills including fluency of signing are expected. Accentuates aspects of deaf culture and community through spontaneously generated conversations including strong emphasis on receptive and expressive skills. Semantic analysis of ASL is required. This course also includes assessment of students’ sign production and comprehensive skills to prepare for language proficiency examinations. The assessment will include the following areas: grammatical accuracy, vocabulary development, fluency, production (accent), and comprehension.
Prerequisites: ASL V and permission of program coordinator
