MISSION

The mission of New Student Orientation is to assist new students with the transition to Gallaudet University.   Through a series of programs and experiences, students will learn to navigate resources with the University.  These resources will provide guidance and support as new students develop a foundation for growth and become members of a global society.  Students will be introduced to programs that will foster a greater understanding of the student’s individual identity as well as the mission of Gallaudet, including, appreciating diversity and the value of contributing to the advancement of all new students during their years at Gallaudet.

New Student Orientation (NSO) is a required program for all students enrolling the first time. This includes freshmen, transfer, visiting, international, and honors students. During NSO, you will participate in welcome week activities; meet academic advisors, faculty, and administrators; and become familiar with campus culture and services. All freshmen, transfer, and international students must take placement tests in English and mathematics during NSO. These tests are required as the scores on the tests help your academic advisor schedule appropriate classes for your first semester.

Program Costs

All NSO participants pay a non-refundable $100 fee which covers program materials and activities.
