VRS Videophone Booth

Gallaudet Interpreting Service, in partnership with Sorenson Communications, offers Sorenson Video Relay Service (SVRS). Sorenson VRS, with its state-of-the-art technology and highly skilled interpreters, is the most popular VRS provider today.

This new service lets deaf and hearing colleagues, family and friends conduct business or stay in touch through the Internet at no cost to the user.

Communication through Sorenson Video Relay Service is the most efficient way a deaf person can make a telephone call. The long pauses and delays that occur in the conversation when the conversation is being typed through a relay operator or on a TTY machine is eliminated. SRVS makes communication fast, smooth and convenient.

This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Deaf VRS Customers

  • To call a hearing person: select "Dial VRS" if you have a Sorenson VP-100 videophone or select "SVRS" if you have a Sorenson VP-200 VideoPhone. Next, enter the phone number of the hearing person that you want to call. You will then be connected to a highly skilled interpreter who will connect you to the hearing person you are calling and interpret the call making it fast, easy and effective communication. The best part is that it's free!

Hearing VRS Customers

  • To call a deaf person, use the toll-free number (866) FAST-VRS (866-327-8877). The Video Relay Interpreter will connect you to the deaf person and will interpret what you say into sign language and voice the deaf person's responses back to you. No special equipment needed; it's fast, easy and effective communication between you and your deaf client, friend or family member.

** Sorenson VRS is not to be confused with Sorenson VRI. With VRS, the deaf or hard-of-hearing individual, the hearing person, and the interpreter are in three (3) separate locations. There is no cost to the users for this service.
